From 15 March to 13 April 2024, our second-year trainees went to Dublin as part of the Erasmus+ program. As a future IT specialist, Lion gained an insight into the IT department of a hospital during his internship abroad. Due to the size of the institution and the department, he was faced with completely different process structures and working methods. Merle and Michelle were able to gain experience as commercial trainees at a wholesale company in the textile industry and provide support with customer service. This included not only assisting and advising customers in the selection of products in the company’s atelier, but also providing support with scheduling and order entry. Of course, the weekends also included visits to well-known sights in and around Dublin. In addition to improving their English skills, the focus of the stay abroad was on intercultural experiences and personal development. We are delighted that the three of them had a great time in Dublin and are now supporting us on site again.

The “Rheder Model” is a project in which regional companies work together to achieve a larger volume of funding. Currently, 23 companies have decided to support the project. On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, we were able to present the selected projects for 2024 together with the other jury members. A total of 22,000 euros will be used to support four projects. The Caritas Association for the Bocholt Deanery will receive funding for the “Urban Gardening at Gudula Kloster” project. The Jugendwerk Rhede e.V. will receive funding for the opening of the bike park, which can be realized with the active support of many young people from Rhede. The volunteer group of rickshaw drivers will receive funding for the purchase of a new rickshaw and will therefore be able to continue offering tours and excursions for senior citizens at both senior centers. In addition, the “Tiger Sharks” swimming school will be supported in offering swimming training for children with special needs. We are now looking forward to the implementation of the projects and, of course, to other companies that would also like to get involved in the “Rhede model”.

At the azubiSTART fair on Saturday, March 2, 2024, interested pupils and their parents had the opportunity to talk directly to regional training companies. The 70 exhibitors at the Rhede comprehensive school were very well received by the visitors. As a cooperation partner of the comprehensive school, we were also able to take part in the event and present and explain our training occupations in detail in numerous good discussions. The audience was also interested in the training content and the implementation of vocational training at HERDING. It quickly became clear that, for example, the opportunity to do an internship abroad as part of training at HERDING is not a matter of course and is therefore a real highlight. We are pleased that we were able to provide insights and contribute to the career orientation of students from grade 8 onwards.

A jury of experts selected their TOP 10 from the many entries, drawing on their decades of retail experience.

The Federal Association of Toy Retailers (BVS) selects the product highlights of the year together with an independent jury from the baby and children’s equipment trade. This year’s jury includes Dr. Jan Weischer (Managing Director BabyOne), Jochen Pohle (Managing Director Toys & Baby EK/servicegroup) and Karsten Pannen (Project Manager Baby VEDES).

The experts and decision-makers in the baby and toddler equipment sector often know the latest trends many months in advance. Around 90 companies and educational institutions from the region took part in the tenth careers fair at the Israhel-van-Meckenem-Realschule in Bocholt on February 3, 2024. Pupils from year eight onwards were on the go to find out about the exhibitors’ offerings and to check out opportunities for work placements.  In numerous discussions with pupils and parents, we were able to present our apprenticeships and explain the content and differences.

At the largest trade fair for home textiles in Frankfurt from January 9 to 12, 2024, we were able to present our new products and highlights to the interested public. In addition to the successful NFL theme with an expanded collection, classics such as Harry Potter, Paw Patrol and Hello Kitty were in great demand. The new TOM TAILOR collection was the focus of the trade fair appearance. We are delighted about the transfer of the TOM TAILOR brand to HERDING and about the positive feedback on our Bed & Bath collection presented by the Hamburg fashion brand.
